Coffee is one of the main Brazilian economy’s products, moving the export market and generating thousands of jobs. In the southern part of Minas Gerais, however, the product gains even a greater importance, being at least part of the economy of more than 80% of the region’s cities.

We, Andréa Oliveira Agribusiness Consulting and Counseling’s team, followed very closely, during a week the Special Coffee’s Route in different farms from Carmo de Minas and region.

Growers from Carmo de Minas use the differentiated cultivation and mountain climate to tell in a certain way the history of this so seductive grain.

The small city of Carmo de Minas, a little town that was born in the beginning of 1814, has just fourteen thousand of inhabitants. It’s the protagonist in the art of growing specialty coffees.

The county is nestled between the wonderful mountainous landscapes that make up Serra da Mantiqueira, place in which we find high quality coffees, with specific aroma and taste.

Highlights, in that region, the multinational Nespresso who develops an important job in the promotion of the sustainability in growing coffee, stimulating sustainable practices as the protection of natural ecosystems, conservation of water, wildlife and improving the rural workers and growers’ quality of life. This Nespresso’s job is developed by local partnerships.

Carmo de Minas is located 420 km far from Belo Horizonte and 275 km from São Paulo and São Lourenço’s neighbor. A town, which is known for its natural fountains, has a combination of favorable weather and fertile soil, the famous “terroir” that ensures the production of high quality grains.

All years, Carmo de Minas is highlight and goes to the list of the best grown grains in Brazil and the centennial coffee plantations are cultivated in the hills, without harming the environment.
